How to Protect Yourself from Fake Uber Support Calls

As a driver, your safety doesn’t just apply to the road — it also includes protecting your personal information and your Uber account. Recently, a new scam has been making the rounds, specifically targeting rideshare drivers through fake support calls. These scams can be incredibly convincing, and falling for one could result in being locked out of your account or losing access to your earnings.
We want to make sure you’re informed, prepared, and know exactly what to look out for.
How the Scam Works
After accepting a trip, you might receive a phone call from someone pretending to be from Uber Support. Here's what typically happens:
The caller claims a rider has reported an issue, saying your profile picture doesn’t match your appearance.
They’ll ask you to “verify” your information — this includes sharing one-time passwords (OTP), confirming your email, and sometimes even your banking details.
Once they have this information, they can take control of your account by changing your email, phone number, and payment details.
You'll be locked out of your account, making it extremely difficult to recover access and earnings.
How to Stay Safe
Never share your OTPs, passwords, or personal details over the phone — even if the caller claims to be from Uber.
Uber will never call you to ask for sensitive information.
If anything feels suspicious, hang up immediately and report the incident directly through the Uber app or website.
What You Should Do:
Be skeptical of unsolicited calls or messages, especially after accepting a trip.
Keep your account secure by enabling two-factor authentication and regularly updating your password.
If you think you’ve been targeted, contact Uber Support right away.
