Splend Myths Busted
There are many options to buy a car for Uber drivers — car finance, renting, leasing or rent to own car subscription plans. But which one is the best? That depends on your needs and possibilities, but joining a car subscription plan is undoubtedly the ideal choice if you're looking for flexibility.
At Splend, we’re car subscription specialists offering two all-inclusive plans tailored specifically for rideshare drivers, covering everything you need to get on the road and start earning. It helps you save time and money, all whilst having the flexibility to hand back the car with no exit fees after the minimum subscription period.
Splend has two car subscription plans to choose from - Flexi and Flexi own. If you’re committed to owning a car, Flexi own is the hassle-free, flexible alternative to car finance you’ve been looking for. You pay a weekly subscription fee to drive the car, and at the end of the term, you’ll own it.
As with anything new to the market, there are plenty of misconceptions circulating about Splend’s subscription plans, so let’s break each down.
Myth #1 - Splend is more expensive than DIY finance
Car subscription vs car finance is the great debate. People tend to compare only the headline weekly payment and automatically assume that DIY finance is the cheaper option. With a closer look, you’ll realise that car finance only covers the car payment and none of the running costs, such as paperwork, insurance and servicing, whilst Splend’s plans come with everything a rideshare driver needs to start driving.
Once you add these costs to the car finance monthly payments, you will see that you end up saving money with Splend. All that added to the flexibility our plans offer, the ongoing support you get from our on-demand car specialists team and the hassle you’re saving yourself from by letting us handle all the admin work.
Don’t just take our word for it, but rather trust the numbers. Here is a data-based example of how much you can save with Flexi own compared to DIY car finance for a Polestar 2.
Polestar 2 Single Motor Standard Range
DIY car finance* | Splend Flexi own
Car payment | $389 | $419 |
Insurance | $181 | Included |
Servicing & parts | $22 | Included |
Rego & CTP | $20 | Included |
Off-road cost | $19 | Included |
Weekly cost | $631 | $419 |
Annual cost | $32,803 | $21,827 |
Total cost | $131,212 | $109,135 |
*DIY car finance assumes an APR of 10% over 5 year contract as of May 2023.
Myth #2 - Splend’s weekly km allowance is too low
Splend has a 1,000 km weekly allowance. If you exceed this, there is a small 10¢ charge for every additional kilometre. Most Uber drivers won’t find any trouble staying within the allowance cap, even if they drive every day.
Did you know? On Splend’s Flexi own plan, any excess kilometres you drive goes towards owning your car sooner – reducing the maximum term. This means you could own your Flexi own car in as little as 3 years!
Myth #3 - Splend’s range of cars is limited
As on-demand vehicle subscription specialists, we’re always keeping up with industry trends and aim to offer our drivers the best cars for Uber. Our mission is to offer every driver the perfect car for their needs.
Some drivers feel safer in smaller, compact cars, such as the Chery Omoda 5 BX, while others aim for size and comfort, like the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
Because we’re big fans of green mobility, we started rolling out EVs to encourage rideshare drivers to switch to an electric car. If you’re looking for a premium but cost-effective experience, the Polestar 2 and Tesla Model Y are a must-have. Plus, we have plenty of hybrid options available, like the ever-popular Kia Niro Hybrid HEV S.
We constantly monitor market trends, technological progress and rideshare drivers’ demands so we know when to add new additions to our car range.
Myth #4 - Splend is expensive compared to the competition
With so many options to choose from, picking a car subscription provider does take some research. Compared to its competitors, Splend stands out by focusing on quality and newness. We offer high-quality petrol, hybrid or electric cars all having the perfect mix for rideshare driving — thrifty on fuel, spacious and easy to maintain.
As car subscription specialists with a well-established history in this business, we created two subscription plans to meet every rideshare driver’s needs — Flexi for those looking to test a car for Uber and Flexi own to the ones committed to buying a new car.
On top of all that, we’re not only cheaper than car finance, but our fares are one of the most competitive across the Australian market.
Another main aspect that differentiates us from our competitors is the dedicated support and driving training we offer. At Splend, we’re about more than figures and papers. Through our ongoing support, we help our customers thrive in their driving careers and maximise their profits. Each Splend customer gets a dedicated Customer Specialist that offers business mentoring, tips on increasing rideshare earnings and constant data–driven feedback.
