Celebrating the women who drive us - Meet the independent Tatiana Frazzica

This year, we celebrated International Women’s Day with a morning tea for our customers. It was great to see the friendly, smiling faces we have missed so much.

Rideshare driving is often seen as a male-dominated industry, however, we have many female customers at Splend.

To celebrate this special day, we wanted to help #BreakTheBias, and so we reached out to some of our female customers to find out not only why they chose ridesharing, but also what it’s really like to be a female driver.

Tatiana’s been with Splend since 2019, well before the pandemic hit. Initially on the Flexi plan, she decided to put weekly payments towards owning her own car and switched to Flexi Own.

She’s now driving the impressive 7-seat Mitsubishi Outlander, well suited for an independent woman like Tatiana. What she likes most about ridesharing is that she can choose her own hours. As a single mum, it’s very important to her to have the flexibility to pick up her kids from school and drop them off whenever needed. When it comes to being a Splend customer, she said:

As a single parent, what matters to me is being independent and having the support I need. Splend helped me with that, by providing a wide range of cars to choose from, and the freedom to work towards owning my own car.

During the lockdown, I had so many jobs with Amazon Flex, which tied in extremely well with my XL car. I’d never go back to the usual 9-5!

Her experience as a female driver has been a positive one. Having a Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, she chose ridesharing because it’s convenient and diverse – you never know who you’re going to meet.

More than half of Tatiana’s passengers are women, which makes every ride even more interesting and invigorating. Here’s her advice to other women drivers:

I don't tend to drive late at night, but I've never had a problem before midnight. You have to be aware of your surroundings and if you don't feel comfortable you can always decline the ride.

Rideshare driving is nothing to be ashamed of and it's the most convenient side hustle.

After a long day, the best part for Tatiana is picking up her 8-year-old son from school and spending time with him.

It doesn’t have to be a full-time job. You can do it in between classes, in the evenings, for extra income or just for fun. If you want to take the plunge and become an Uber driver, our customers are testament that regardless of gender or back story, everyone can make it work.
