Uber launches new incentives to encourage PCO drivers to go electric

Uber continues to lead the charge towards a greener future with exciting new features and incentives designed to support PCO drivers.

Aiming for a zero-emission fleet by 2050, Uber has been empowering drivers to make the switch to electric vehicles through initiatives like the Uber Clean Air Plan and reduced commission on Uber Green trips.

Now, they’re taking it even further, with innovative updates that make going green easier for both drivers and passengers. Here’s a closer look at Uber’s latest features and how they’ll benefit PCO drivers.

Heathrow Green Curb: Better rides at the airport

Uber Green passengers at Heathrow Airport will now enjoy two key benefits:

  • Exclusive access to dedicated pick-up zones in preferred locations at the airport.

  • A 10% discount on their ride, making Uber Green a more attractive option for passengers.

For PCO drivers in EVs, this is a win-win. You’ll continue earning 10% more on Uber Green trips, and the Green Curb feature will give you a competitive advantage with faster, easier pick-ups and higher demand.

Uber is also planning to offer EV drivers discounted or free fast charging at the airport, making Heathrow a hotspot for EV earnings.

Smart charging made simple

Charging an electric vehicle can be daunting for new drivers, but Uber is tackling this challenge with smart charging features in the Driver app.

  • Find charging stations near you. The app will display the location, cost, and availability of nearby chargers, so you can choose the best option.

  • Charge smarter, not harder. Recommendations based on real-time data will help you avoid peak demand hours, saving you time and money.

  • Battery-Aware Matching. This feature will match you with trips suited to your EV’s current battery level, ensuring you don’t accept rides too long for your range and guiding you to nearby chargers.

Eco-friendly routes

Uber’s navigation system is also getting a green upgrade. The app will now consider energy consumption when suggesting routes, helping you find the most fuel-efficient path without increasing travel time or fare.

This update has already made a big impact in North America, where drivers avoided 9,800 metric tons of CO2 in just a few months. Soon, UK drivers can enjoy these benefits too.

Emission savings tracker

Both riders and drivers will now be able to see their carbon emission savings through a new Emission Savings feature in the app. For passengers, it’s a powerful reminder of the environmental impact of choosing Uber Green. For drivers, it’s another incentive to be part of a greener future.

Green updates for Uber Eats

Many PCO drivers also take on Uber Eats deliveries to boost their income, and Uber is expanding its sustainability efforts to delivery services.

  • Zero emissions by 2040. Uber Eats aims to eliminate emissions on all deliveries.

  • Green packaging. Customers can now identify restaurants using recyclable or compostable packaging, reducing waste while supporting eco-friendly businesses.

About Splend

At Splend, we believe in drivers. We know their vehicles need to work harder than most; that they drive more miles than most; that their insurance is hefty; their maintenance costs high and that they can face unreasonable finance rates – which is a heavy load to carry on their own.

That’s why at Splend, we exist to support rideshare drivers with a new model, that takes all those car ownership costs, and provides them for less, with lower purchase prices, better rates, lower servicing and insurance costs – all for one weekly repayment, all in one place.
