Getting started with Splend is very easy and straightforward. First, fill in the enquiry form on our website. Then, one of our team members will contact you to understand your needs and help you choose the perfect car for your PCO driving needs. You’ll then be invited to book an appointment at our hub, where you can test drive the car and finalise the sign-up process. Once that’s done, you can pick up your car and start enjoying hassle-free driving.

To sign up, you’ll need a copy of your driver’s licence with your current address or change of address sticker, your passport/birth certificate or citizenship certificate, and your driving history issued by your state road and transport authority.

We understand that costs are a crucial factor for PCO drivers, which is why Splend offers transparent pricing and all-inclusive packages that aim to be cheaper than you would get organising the buying, financing and owning costs yourself. Our weekly payments include all your car ownership expenses such as registration, servicing, maintenance and damage and loss cover, and are typically much cheaper (and certainly more convenient) than managing everything yourself. There's also a one-off establishment fee to get started. If you exceed your weekly mileage limit, additional charges of 20 pence per mile apply, but these charges go towards paying off your vehicle earlier.

No, you don’t need a good credit history, and every application is considered.

No, Splend doesn’t issue credit. We charge all our vehicle plan fees one week in advance.

We can onboard you the same day you apply provided you’re an approved PCO driver with all the required documents ready (including your insurance checks approved, without further investigations needed), and your preferred car is available.

If you’re married or live in a legally recognized civil partnership, you can nominate your partner as a second driver for a one-off fee. Once approved, they can use the car for personal use – however, only one driver may use the car for Uber.

To be eligible, your partner must live at the same address as you, must be over the age of 25, and pass our insurance checks.

Tell another PCO driver about Splend, and if they use your referral code when they enquire and then sign up to a Flexi Own plan, you’ll get a £200 Splend credit – plus they’ll get a £200 Splend credit when they own with Splend. There's no limit to how many friends you can refer so our referral program is a unique opportunity to drastically reduce your weekly payments. Both the Splend Flexi Try (Flexi) and Flexi own agreements are Unregulated Hire Purchase agreements under the Business Use Exemption. These agreements are to be entered into wholly or predominantly for the purposes of business. These agreements will not have the benefit of the protection and remedies available under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 or under the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

At Splend, we know that one of the most important aspects of driving a PCO car is to make sure you are covered if you have an accident or your car is stolen. Unfortunately insurance companies charge high premiums for PHV insurance. Our all-inclusive plans provide Damage and Loss Cover, including using the car for which provides liability cover for you and your passengers, as well as comprehensive car cover for most day-to-day driving. This includes using the car for business use such as ridesharing and delivery work such as Uber Eats or Amazon Flex.

Please note: full terms for the insurance policy are specified in your agreement, and are only valid if you adhere to the conditions.

First, make sure everyone involved is safe. If there are any serious injuries, call an ambulance by dialling 999.

After you’ve attended to all medical issues, please call 0333 016 4331 and select ‘report an accident’ – press ‘3’ and then ‘1’. It's important you report all damage immediately (within 24 hours of the accident occurring).

There is an excess of approximately £1,000 for any insurance claim. The exact amount varies by your risk category, and the excess for non-fault claims may be partially or fully refundable If we can successfully recover the costs from another at-fault party.

If we can successfully recover the costs from the at-fault party, we’ll refund you the excess.

To make an insurance claim, call 0333 016 4331 and select ‘report an accident’ – press ‘3’ and then ‘1’.

Drivers become eligible for 2 weeks of payment holiday relief after they pass their minimum period, and another 2 weeks after the next 6 months. Every 6 months thereafter you can request another 2 weeks of payment holiday relief.

There are eligibility rules for this benefit. Drivers must not have failed more than one payment in the last 3 months and must have a Crash Probability Score (CPS) of less than 9 to qualify.

All cars come with all the PCO documentation up-to-date, so they’re ready for Uber driving and other on-demand work.

As part of your Flexi Own plan, we cover all your scheduled and warranty maintenance costs. You must ensure your car is maintained to the manufacturer’s servicing schedule, which can be found online as well as the car’s log book in the glovebox.

Each scheduled manufacturer’s service should be completed within 500 miles of being due. Your car will be off the road for up to one working day during this time.

Schedules servicing is included up to 100,000 miles as part of your Flexi Own plan.

Splend customers also enjoy 24/7 roadside assistance, for things like:

• Flat or faulty battery

• Emergency fuel

• Flat tyres

• Towing

• Unlocking the car

Additionally, all Splend cars come with an extensive factory manufacturer’s warranty to cover the cost of most defects.

The maintenance pack is designed to provide replacement tyres and brakes that a normal driver would need over the length of the plan term to keep you safe on the road. This includes

• 10 x tyres

• 4 x sets of front brake pads

• 2 x 2 brake discs

At Splend, we recommend replacing tyres when the tread depth reaches 2 millimetres.

How to measure tread depth

Take a 20p coin and insert it into the tread grooves on the tyre. If the outer band of the 20p coin is visible, you should book your car in for a tyre swap.

You can book an appointment to have your replacement parts fitted via the Splend app or on 0333 016 4331.

However, it’s your responsibility to cover all repairs not under warranty, including but not limited to bodywork, glass, or tyre damage, and all other non-wear-and-tear items

We operate in accordance with the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) Fair Wear and Tear Guide; wear and tear that’s reasonable given your car’s age/mileage.

If your car shows damage outside the fair wear and tear definitions, you must have them repaired at your own cost. Here are some common examples:

Bodywork damage

Large paint scratches (over 25mm)

Scuffed bumpers or wheel-arches

Dented roof or sills

Cracked plastic parts

Poor repair jobs

Damaged seats or interior trim

The subscription agreement and the included insurance don’t cover any damage to the windscreen.

Smaller cracks or chips in Zone A, or any damage larger than 40mm elsewhere on the windscreen deem the car unroadworthy, so these need to be fixed immediately. If you find chips or cracks 5mm or larger, you should book a service appointment as soon as possible, as these might spread and cause greater damage.

The manufacturer warranty and the included Loss and Damage waiver don’t cover flat tyres. If you get a puncture, call 0333 016 4331 and request roadside assistance, and arrange to have the tyre replaced at your cost.

Splend customers enjoy 24/7 roadside assistance.

If your car breaks down, call 0333 016 4331 and request roadside assistance. They will ensure you’re back on the road as soon as possible. If your car needs to be off the road for warranty repairs you'll be entitled to a free PCO-approved courtesy car.

Your first payment can have up to three components:

1. Setup fee

There’s a one-time, setup fee from £299 - £499 (including VAT). This fee covers your car’s delivery, background checks, and process your application.

The setup fee is non-refundable.

2. Collection day fee

This is your weekly plan fee for the days left of the first week, including the day you pick up the car.

For example, if you pick up the car on a Friday, we only charge you three days instead of a full weekly fee.

1. One week upfront weekly fee

At Splend, we consider your application even if you have bad credit. However, we can only do this by collecting your payments one week in advance – you’re always paying next week’s fee each time we charge your card.

If you collect your car on billing day (Thursday) or later into the week, we also charge you your first full week’s fee, in addition to the setup fee and the collection day fee.

Splend makes car ownership easier, more affordable and more accessible for PCO drivers by building everything they need to earn more, pay less and stress less into one affordable weekly payment.

Your weekly payment not only covers the cost of the car (think about this as what you would pay a finance company to pay off a car you bought and financed the ordinary way) but also covers all the essential ongoing costs associated with owning and operating a PCO car. These include: Road Tax, MOT, PHV licence, PHV damage and loss cover, scheduled servicing, ongoing maintenance items (like replacement tyres and brakes), 24/7 roadside assistance, access to an PCO-approved courtesy car if your car is damaged in an accident or needs to be repaired due to a warranty issue, plus other exclusive Splend driver benefits.

YourFlexi Own weekly payment includes a 1,000 mile weekly driving allowance. We charge a 20p per mile early ownership fee for any excess mileage, which brings forward the finish date of your agreement. In other words, the more you drive, the sooner you gain full ownership of the car.

You can reduce the length of your 4-year Flexi subscription this way by a maximum of 52 weeks, so the earliest you can own your car on a Flexi Own plan for a new car is 3 years (our pre-owned vehicles can be owned sooner as the mileage/age of the car is taken into account in the initial term calculation).

We charge your nominated debit or credit card every Wednesday night for the following week (Monday-Sunday).

If you can’t make a payment, please let your Customer Specialist know as soon as possible. We charge a £19 late payment fee for any failed payments.

Yes, you need to pay the full setup fee again.

We understand that circumstances can sometimes change, so with Flexi Own, we only have a 26-week minimum period (for 4 year plans) and 12 months (for 5 year plans), with 4 weeks’ notice required to end the agreement.

PCN notices

Since the car is registered to Splend’s, any Penalty Charge Notices you get will automatically be directed to us. We redirect these to you in case you want to challenge them. We charge a £15 admin fee for each PCN you receive.

Tolls

Any charges for using toll roads, tunnels, and bridges such as the Dartford crossing are your responsibility to manage and pay. If you fail to pay any of these charges, you’ll likely get a PCN notice.

Excess mileage

If you want to drive over the weekly mileage allowance to increase your rideshare income, there’s a 20p charge for every mile you travel over the 1000 miles included in your plan, however all excess mileage charges go towards early ownership of your vehicle.

We charge excess mileage in arrears for the week before last, and add it to your weekly invoice.

Flexi own upgrade

If you upgrade your Flexi Try plan to a Flexi own plan, there is a £100 one-off charge.

In order to return your car, you must give two weeks’ notice – in writing – to your Customer Specialist.

There are no fees charged if you decide to return your car after the minimum term is served, and everything else is in order (see below for details). If you return the car before the minimum term is completed, you will need to pay any remaining weeks in full, so if you have two weeks before the minimum period ends, you will be charged for those two weeks.

We may need to charge for re-charging if you return the car with less charge than you took it out on.

A cleaning fee may also apply if the car requires further cleaning.

If you return the car with damage outside what is accepted in the BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear Guide, you must have the car repaired at your own cost.

If you need to return your car early, you will be charged the fees for the weeks that remain until the end of your minimum agreement period.

For example, if you have four weeks left until the end of your minimum agreement period, we’ll charge you the equivalent of four weekly payments upon returning the car.

At the completion of your Flexi own contract, we charge a £199 balloon payment for changing the V5C registration document into your name.

Splend’s Flexi Own fee includes a government and insurance charge element that is outside of our control. If any of these change, we may need to increase or decrease your weekly fees by this amount.

We operate in accordance with the AFLA Fair Wear and Tear Guide. We accept wear and tear that is reasonable given your car’s age/mileage.

Your agreement includes a 1,000 km weekly driving allowance. Excess mileage above that costs 10¢ per km for additional operating and maintenance costs.

We charge your nominated debit or credit card every Thursday morning at 00:01 for the following week (Monday-Sunday).

If you can’t make a payment, please let your Customer Specialist know as soon as possible. We charge a £19 late payment fee for any failed payments.

Yes, you need to pay the full setup fee amount.

Splend’s Flexi subscription fee includes a government and insurance charge element that is outside of our control. If any of these change, we may need to increase or decrease your weekly fees by this amount.

Congestion Charges

We add the £15.50 Congestion Charge to your weekly invoice for each day you enter the Central London charging zone. You can avoid paying the Congestion Charge if you choose an electric car.

PCN notices

Since the car is registered to Splend, the local boroughs will issue any Penalty Charge Notices to us. We’ll then try to change the PCN into your name.

If the issuing borough accepts our nomination, it will be re-issued in your name for you to pay or challenge. If they reject the nomination, we’ll pay the fine to prevent the cost of the PCN increasing, and add it to your next invoice along with a £15 administration fee.

Tolls

Any charges for using toll roads, tunnels, and bridges such as the Dartford crossing are your responsibility to manage and pay. If you fail to pay any of these charges, you’ll likely get a PCN notice.

Excess mileage

If you want to drive over the weekly mileage allowance to increase your rideshare income, there’s a small 20p charge for every mile you travel over the 1000 miles included in your plan.

We charge excess mileage in arrears for the week before last, and add it to your weekly invoice.

In order to return your car, you must give two weeks’ notice – in writing – to your Customer Specialist.

If you return the car after the minimum subscription period, there is no return fee/charge.

We may need to charge a re-fuelling if you return the car with less fuel than you took it out on. Your Customer Specialist will remind you of the fuel level when you hand in your two-week notice.

A cleaning fee may also apply if the car requires further cleaning.

If you return the car with damage outside what is accepted in the BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear Guide, you must have the car repaired at your own cost.

If you need to return your car within the minimum period, we’ll charge you a £1,194 cancellation fee, minus the subscription fees you’ve already paid during the minimum subscription period.

For example, if you have three weeks left until the end of your minimum subscription period, we’ll charge you three times your weekly fee upon returning the car.

The charging time for your EV depends on the charger type and your car's battery capacity. Home charging using a standard 7kW wall box can take anywhere between 6 to 12 hours for a full charge, depending on the battery size. Rapid chargers at public charging stations (typically 50kW) can get you up to 80% charge in around 30 to 60 minutes. The fastest public chargers (150kW and 350kW versions) can top up certain models in as little as 15-20 minutes.

Most new electric cars come with a Type 2 charger, which is the standard charging port in the UK. This is usually a slow charger (3-pin plug) that can be used with regular home sockets, though it's recommended to install a dedicated home wall box for faster charging times. Some manufacturers may also include a cable for rapid charging, which can be used at public fast-charging stations.

Charging your EV is generally much cheaper than filling a petrol or diesel vehicle. On average, charging at home in the UK costs around 17p per kWh, so a typical 60kWh battery will cost around £10 to £12 to fully charge. Charging at public rapid chargers may be more expensive, costing between 30p and 70p per kWh, depending on the provider. It's also worth noting that some public chargers are free, such as certain supermarket and workplace charging stations.

Uber are also currently offering a benefit to drivers switching to electric vehicles through their EV assistance programme. Their BP pulse offer gives EV drivers the opportunity to reduce the cost of charging their EV with the first 8,000 active drivers to subscribe to bp pulse being eligible for up to £750 of charging credits.

Electricity costs for an EV are significantly lower than petrol or diesel. For instance, the cost per mile for an EV is around 4p-6p, whereas for a petrol car, it’s roughly 14p-18p per mile, depending on fuel prices. Driving an EV could save you up to £1,000 a year on fuel alone, especially with rising petrol and diesel prices in the UK.

With an electric vehicle, you're eligible for the Uber Green category, which is specifically for low-emission and electric vehicles. You may also be eligible for premium categories like Uber Comfort or Uber XL, depending on your vehicle type.

Uber is actively encouraging drivers to switch to electric vehicles through its Clean Air Plan, so it's worth checking if your vehicle qualifies for additional earning categories.

Modern EVs typically offer a range of up to 300 miles on a single charge. This is usually more than enough to cover daily travel for most drivers. If you're a rideshare driver, you can plan your charging stops based on your driving patterns. The UK has a vast and growing network of rapid charging stations, making it easy to top up during the day, if required. Many drivers opt to do this while they are stopping for a meal or rest break.

Range anxiety is common for new EV drivers, but there are several ways to manage it. Most EVs come with navigation systems that show you nearby charging stations, and there are apps like Zap-Map that allow you to find available chargers anywhere across the UK. Planning your routes and knowing where the nearest charging points are can ease concerns. Additionally, many EVs will alert you when your battery is low and direct you to the nearest charging station. Once you start driving an EV you will soon find a pattern for charging that works for you.

Battery replacements in EVs are rare. Most manufacturers offer warranties on their batteries that cover up to 8 years or 100,000 miles, and EV batteries are designed to last well beyond that. Over time, battery capacity may degrade slightly, but it's usually a gradual process, and many drivers won’t need a replacement within the typical lifespan of the vehicle.

As an EV driver, you may be eligible for several offers and incentives. Uber’s Clean Air Plan provides EV drivers with financial assistance, including EV purchase incentives and charging discounts. As an Uber Clean Air Partner, all vehicles on Splend's Flexi Own and Flexi Try plans, as well as used vehicles bought outright are eligible for drivers to claim their EV Assistance through. Its Power Up program also gives Uber drivers discounts on charging, including cheaper charging at BP Pulse stations.

Driving an EV in London comes with various perks, including exemptions from congestion charges and free or discounted parking in some areas. As of 21 May, 2024 and For a limited duration, eligible non-electric vehicle drivers within London may qualify for a funding allocation of £5,000 in EV Assistance from the PowerUp Package aimed at facilitating their transition to an electric vehicle under the Uber Clean Air Plan (CAP).

Drivers who have not previously accumulated an EV Assistance Amount under the Uber Clean Air Plan may be eligible for a £5,000 subsidy towards the purchase of an electric vehicle.

For drivers who accumulated less than £5,000 in EV assistance through Uber's Clean Air Plan, Uber will augment the deficit up to £5,000, provided the driver has not previously received any EV Assistance.

As an approved Uber Clean Air Plan vendor, all EVs available through Splend are eligible. Eligible drivers simply select the EV that’s right for them before November 30, 2024 and the CAP amount will be applied to reduce the cost.

Drivers eligible for the £5,000 in EV Assistance must meet the following criteria:

The driver must have transitioned to an electric vehicle, with the vehicle added to their Uber account by 30 November 2024.

Non-EV driver: Defined as drivers who have completed less than 10 EV trips in the 6 months preceding the launch date of 21 May 2024.

The driver must have fulfilled rides for Uber on at least 150 separate occasions in the 8 week period immediately prior to the day on which the driver requests EV Assistance (the "Minimum Trips Condition").

The driver's original notional EV Assistance amount must be less that £4,900 at the point of requesting the limited duration £5,000 EV Assistance Amount.

Drivers who have previously used any portion of the Clean Air Fund to switch to an electric vehicle and subsequently reverted to a non-electric vehicle will not meet the eligibility criteria for the limited duration £5,000 EV Assistance Amount.

Drivers can utilise their CAP funds in a number of ways through Splend. Our Flexi Own (rent to buy) or Flexi Try (rental) options can both be used, and we also provide the option to buy a used car outright and use your CAP funds. Here are the options:

- Purchase a new EV through Flexi Own (our Rent-To-Buy plan) - Option 1: CAP balance applied over the whole vehicle contract (4 or 5 years) and automatically discounted from each weekly payment through Splend.

- Purchase a new EV through Flexi Own (our Rent-To-Buy plan) – Option 2: Claim up to £75 per week off the cost of your plan to reduce the price of your weekly payments for as long as your CAP lasts (for £5,000 this will be just over 66 weeks). At the end of this period your weekly payments will revert to the original price.

- Purchase a used EV through Flexi Own: CAP balance applied over the whole vehicle contract (term length is determined by the age of the car) and discounted from each weekly payment.

- Purchase a used PCO vehicle outright: CAP balance applies to deposit contribution, used upfront and in full to reduce the cost of the car.

- Flexi Try Plan (Rental): Rental cost can be reduced by £75 per week until CAP balance is used up.

If you do not switch to an EV before 30th November 2024 your EV assistance will return to the amount you originally accumulated. If you have unused EV Assistance and have not switched to an EV by 31 March 2025, these funds will be reallocated and made available to any London drivers wanting to make the switch to an EV.

If you enter into a purchase agreement on or before November 30th, the amount of EV assistance specified in that contract will be secured. If you enter a rental agreement on or before November 30th, your top up sum will be locked in, meaning you will not be restored to your previous EV Assistance amount after November 30th.

If drivers claimed their Uber Clean Air Plan via rental claims, they will be eligible for a top-up to £5,000, minus the amount they already claimed (provided they accumulated under £5,000 total and have not been in an EV in the last 6 months). If drivers claimed their full amount of CAP through Rent-To-Buy or ownership, they will not be eligible for a top-up.

An additional benefit being offered by Uber is the opportunity to reduce the cost of charging your EV through their bp pulse offer. The first 8,000 active drivers to subscribe to bp pulse are eligible for up to £750 of charging credits. New subscribers automatically become eligible when the subscription is active, and Uber status is validated. Monthly charging credits start when the subscription begins, even before starting the EV adventure.

EVs allow you to earn 10% more with Uber Green than with Uber X.

Anyone may be a referrer/inviter who (a) is a legal resident of the United Kingdom, (b) is of legal age in the United Kingdom, and (c) has an active Splend account in good standing. 

• To receive a referral payment for referring someone who successfully joins Splend, your referral must (a) be a new Splend customer, (b) meet the conditions Splend has for joining our community, (c) use your referral code when they sign up, and (d) comply with the standard Splend Terms and Conditions. 

• Please note: if you are providing Splend with the contact information for your referral, you represent that you have the right to provide that information. 

You become eligible for a referral payment once the new customer you referred completes their onboarding and becomes a Splend customer. Please allow up to three weeks for the referral payment to be credited to your invoice after the customer you refer completes their onboarding.   

Should your referral payment be approved, the £200 payment will be credited against your weekly payment invoice.    

The referral payment will be used as credit against your outstanding balance.   

Your Customer Specialist will provide you with your unique referral code when you onboard Splend. If you forget your referral code, simply contact your Customer Specialist.  

• Splend wants you to share your referral code and earn, but referral codes must be used only for personal and non-commercial purposes. This means that you can share your referral code only with people you know.  

• Splend has the right to limit the number of times you may use or share your referral code based on the referral program in which you participate.  

• Yes! For a limited time we are extending our Referral rewards program to customers referring people to Splend to buy a Used PCO EV.

• Current Splend customers on a Flexi Own plan or those who have purchased a used vehicle outright from Splend shall be eligible for a £200 referral payment for any customer they refer to Splend to purchase a used vehicle outright until 30 June 2025. The referred individual will not receive a payment in the case of buying a used vehicle outright.
